In “A Christmas Carol,” Charles Dickens wrote “Christmas isn’t just a day, it’s a frame of mind.” As with this timeless classic story, Sex and Couples Therapy is an opportunity to change our own narratives and make new choices as Scrooge did and as George Bailey did in another holiday classic “It’s A Wonderful Life.” George Bailey‘s lack of self-worth and Scrooge’s sense of self-importance are relevant themes today.

These lessons in empathy and self-awareness are transformative for relationships. The exploration of what ails us heals us. Dickens said, “Christmas will always be as long as we stand heart to heart and hand in hand.” Both individuals discovered that it was through their relationships that they were positively changed.

Perhaps, as in “Miracle on 34th Street,” we can begin to choose to see our relationships with new eyes and childlike wonder. Love is in the doing. From my house to yours, I wish you a safe, warm and happy holiday season.
